The charming Mankwe Tented Retreat is situated in a private concession on the doorstep of the game-rich Moremi Game Reserve, a 2-hour/90km drive from Maun, and on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, a renowned World Heritage Site in Botswana. Tucked away in a grove of mopane trees and mysterious woodlands, Mankwe (meaning mother leopard) offers its visitors an unbeatable location close to both land and water-based safari activities. Mankwe Tented Retreat is a sanctuary for the soul and oozes an atmosphere of tranquillity. In total, there are 10 tented suites. Tents are built on raised wooden platforms, each with its own private viewing deck. Expansive bedrooms offer a configuration of twins or a king-sized bed. Bathrooms are ensuite with a shower and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness through the canvas windows. The main, central area houses a swimming pool with wooden walkways that flow through to a dining area and small boma. The deck area is adorned with deck chairs and there are various sheltered enclaves for relaxing. Leading out from the main wooden walkway is a second swimming pool, complete with sun loungers, umbrellas and a pool bar. But that's not all - there's also a lounge/reading area kitted out with games and books. Meals are served around the main pool area or in the dining area. Each night, a campfire is lit in the open air boma under the stars. After and exhilarating, adventure-filled day, guests staying at Mankwe Tented Retreat can enjoy a pampering session in the small on-site treatment room where treatments can be booked in advance. Safari-goers can tailor-make their own activity schedule. Most guests opt for a full-day excursion into the Khwai River section of Moremi and boat cruises through the Okavango Delta’s reed-lined channels. Visitors wanting something a little closer to home can join game drives and sundowner sessions on Mankwe’s concession, which has recently extended its traversing rights to include the prime predator territory of the Khwai riverfront. African wild dogs, elephants, honey badgers and a colourful array of birdlife are frequently spotted around camp. This is a prestigious territory in the wild wonderland of Botswana, where the lack of fences allows for free-roaming wildlife, resident lions, an abundance of elephants and incomprehensible room to explore.

Malaria - before travelling, guests are encouraged to consult their local doctors about anti-malarial medication. There are direct flights from Johannesburg to Maun. Travel insurance is compulsory for all bookings. Travel insurance is required to cover cancellations, personal effects, personal accidents, medical and emergency travel expenses .
