Penwarn Farm Lodge is located in the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg, nestled in a beautiful valley surrounded by lakes and traversed by two rivers. Rustic but with modern touches, Penwarn Farm Lodge has 6 self-catering cottages, just 25km from the quaint town of Underberg and an easy 3 hour drive from Durban. Penwarn offers guests an authentic farm experience for solo travellers, couples, families and groups. Penwarn Manor is the largest of the 5 lodges, accommodating up to 16 guests. Complete with 7 en-suite bedrooms, a large kitchen, ideal for reunions and cooking up a storm, an open plan dining and living area with 2 fireplaces and doors that look over the fishing dam. Simple and rustic with modern touches and ideal for large groups. Mthini Lodge can accommodate 8 adults and 2 children. This self-catering lodge comprises of 3 bedrooms with king beds and one suite with 2 three quarter beds. Each room offers an en-suite bathroom. The lodge has a fully equipped kitchen with open plan living and dining area. A fireplace with private patio and boma makes for an ideal winter escape. Stunning views over the lake and Southern Drakensberg Peaks. 2 Children can be accommodated on request. Mziki Cottage comprises 2 bedrooms and can accommodate 7 adults and a child. There are 2 bedrooms with queen size beds, a loft with 2 three quarter beds and a single day bed. The cottage shares 2 bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a jet bath with lake views. A large open plan kitchen with dining area and doors which lead onto a patio with expansive garden and braai facilities. The 2-5 sleeper cottages are called the Kingfisher, Nguni and Oribi. Each is very similar in design and layout. These A-Frame thatched cottages comprise a main bedroom with a queen bed and a loft room with 2 x three quarter beds (an extra single bed can be added on arrangement). The cottages are ideal for small families with an open plan kitchen, lounge area, 1 bathroom and patio. A number of activities around Penwarn Farm Lodge are available for the outdoor adventurer – hiking on the farm or surrounding areas, horse riding, swimming at the dam or river or fishing. Nearby attractions include Sani Pass, The Local Cheese Factory and The Underberg Museum. Sharing the grasslands are zebra, hartebeest and blesbok.
