Thula Thula is situated on a malaria free 4500 hectare wildlife reserve – home to a wide variety of game including elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard, hippo, giraffe, and hundreds of bird species. The renowned conservationist and author, Lawrence Anthony, started Thula Thula. Famous for his novels of the rescued Thula Thula elephants and the very unique and special relationship he had with the herd. Since his passing in 2012, Thula Thula Private Game Reserve is now run by his wife, Francoise Anthony, who carries the legacy of Lawrence with the conservation projects and the running of the two lodges. Accommodation at Thula Thula Private Game Reserve comprises of the Elephant Safari Lodge and the Luxury Tented Camp – both offer a unique and different experience, along with stylish décor and superb cuisine. The Elephant Safari Lodge offers accommodation in luxurious private chalets – each decorated in a colonial style with private verandas. From your private veranda, you can observe superb birdlife and wildlife roaming free in the 4500 hectares co nservancy. Facilities at the Elephant Safari Lodge include the Marula Bar which overlooks the waterhole and a swimming pool adjacent to the bar, complete with sun-loungers, tables and hammocks. The Luxury Tented Camp is for those who wish to rediscover nature in great style - where the peaceful essence of the African bush can be heard and felt. With only 8 luxury tents, all with private viewing decks, fans, mosquito nets en-suite bathrooms (with Victorian bath and outside shower), exclusivity is assured! Guests can choose either the 2 Sleeper Luxury Tent or the Family Luxury tent which has 2 three-quarter beds and 2 single bed. Facilities at the tented camp include a central living area with bar, dining room, lounge, outside thatched bar, boma and swimming pool. The pool area is an ideal spot for sipping sundowners whilst viewing passing wildlife. A buffet lunch is served around the outside thatched bar or by the swimming pool. Dine under the stars in the boma for a traditional South African braai where you will share stories of the day’s game viewing or the legends of the bush with your hosts.
